WHITE CANE SAFETY DAY CELEBRATIONS 15 TH OCTOBER - 2022
The Sri Lanka Council for the Blind (SLCB) celebrated International White Cane Safety Day 2022 on 15 th October 2022 at the AmaradasaGunawardana Auditorium of the SLCB. The day was marked by a half day programmes consisting of a talk on the History of the White Cane Day by senior member of SLCB former Secretary Mr. R.M.H.P. Gunaratne and the providing of Financial Assistance for Livelihood, Housing and Education to Visually impaired persons from all over Sri Lanka. Over 60 visually impaired persons participated in this programme.
TheChief Guest for this programme was Mr. Vernon Abeyratne Chairman, Joint Agri Products Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd. The Welcome address was given by President of SLCB Mr. Austin Fernando. The Administrative Officer, Ms. Mangala WeerasooriyaArachchigehandled the Awards Ceremonywhile the vote of Thanks was given by Secretary SLCB Mr. Nanda Corea.
There was also musical entertainment provided by Mr. Sumedha Bandara, (who is a professional Musician) and Ms Chathuni Hiranya, and Mr. Rizvi Mohammed (students at our rehabilitation programme). These three persons who provided musical entertainment are Visually ImpairedPersons.All the VIP’s who attended the event were provided with a snack (on arrival ) which was sponsored by Ms. Finagle Bakers, Participation gift and a cash award to cover of their travelling expenses (provided by well-wishers of SLCB) and Lunch which was sponsored by the Sri Lanka China Society who have been supporting the work of the SLCB for many years.
We are very grateful to all those who contributed in many ways to make this event a success.
