The Sri Lanka Council for the Blind is one of the founding members of the Asian Blind Union (ABU). The ABU is one of the six regions of the World Blind Union and is the voice of vision impaired persons from South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East.

The ABU held its General Assembly in Tashkent, Uzbekistanfrom the 11th to 13th May 2023. Ms. Shalika Karunaratne (Life Member, Fmr. Secretary SLCB) represented Sri Lanka at this General Assembly and was elected to the Executive Committee of the ABU (2023 – 2026). She was accompanied by the Administrative Officer of SLCB, Ms. Mangala Weerasooriya Arachchige who served as a volunteer during the General Assembly.

We are very thankful to Shalika & Mangala for representing SLCB at this AGM. We also congratulate Shalika on her election to the Executive Committee and wish her all success.
